Around the Colvin Cottage: Focusing on Our Blessings

Whew!  What a week!  I don’t know a single person NOT affected by this week’s events.

This week in April is always a tough one.  Because it holds the anniversaries of many tragic events, it evokes memories that sadden many of us.  On top of our memories we added new tragic events.

During weeks like this it is easy to get caught up in the sadness and fear.  We don’t watch the news when our kids are in the room.  Superhero Son is old enough to understand what is happening  but too young to deal with it.  We get our news from the tablet, because we can hold it so he can’t see, or after they both go to bed.  This helped us to not get so wrapped up in the current events this week.

What did my family do to celebrate life?  We extended the birthday festivities for Superhero Son!  We went to Virginia Tech’s Spring Football Game, ate lots of Spiderman birthday cake, played outside, practiced t-ball, and more! Here is our proof that life goes on!

Clearly you see the highlight of Superhero Son’s day!  He managed to talk his “G” into giving him the ENTIRE red Spiderman!

Life at Virginia Tech didn’t stop moving six years ago when the shooting occurred.  People won’t allow the Boston bombings to convince them to stay indoors and quake in fear for the rest of their lives.  We must not allow terrorism to control our lives.  God is in control!  God has the power to protect, save, and guide us.

Today is a day to give thanks for our blessings.  Instead of dwelling further in the sadness, we will rejoice in the good of the week. Take time today to count your blessings.

Blessings!
