A Gift to Yourself

Merry Christmas to all of my followers! I am so thankful for the comments, support, and visits to my blog. Since I began this journey in April, one of the greatest lessons I have learned is to give gifts to yourself. Allow me to explain.

The most common comment I get is “How do you do it all?”
I don’t.  I have help. I married an amazing man. We have family close. However, I combat fatigue, burnout, and feelings of inadequacy with gifts to myself.

My favorite gifts include coffee out and nights when I leave dirty dishes, unswept floors, and dirty laundry for an early night in bed.

This Christmas,  give a gift to yourself. You may be up to your ears in cooking, hosting, wrapping, and cleaning up the mess afterward. Give yourself a break. Take time to enjoy Christmas.  Pray. Be thankful. Slow down. Remember to celebrate the life of Jesus.

Merry Christmas and blessings to you and your families!

Prayer for the Giver

Today is a Christmas party for my kids at their sitter’s house. Superhero Son helped me wrap last night. They draw names, so we had a gift from each of our kids, and a third gift for their sitter.

This morning, I realized that I felt kind of sad for Superhero Son. He is so excited about getting a gift today, but it won’t be any of the gifts on his Christmas list. He asked for about 3 big items, but Santa will take care of those. His friends will get something small today. I hope he gets something he likes, but I have a greater wish for him.

I pray that he can receive the joy of giving.  He is 4 1/2 now. He is old enough to understand that he helped with the gifts for others. I hope he gets excited when he gives. The blessings from giving are never disappointing.

He isn’t a picky kid. I am sure he will love his gift today. I just pray the gift of giving sinks in as well.

I love Christmas!  I love the food, music, excitement, busyness, shopping, traditions, and movies.  I even love the crowds!  I am so excited about it this year because Darling Daughter is old enough to be excited with the rest of us. We will have two kids to enjoy all of the magic with this year!

Having said that, I am not ready to begin the craziness just quite yet!  I love Thanksgiving, too.

I heard that some local towns are already putting up their Christmas decorations.  I know some friends who are doing the same.  I even know a few, a very select few, who are finished with all of their Christmas shopping.

Thanksgiving is an opportunity to gather as a family, focus on our blessings, and not worry about giving or getting more.  It is a time to concentrate on all that we already have.

Don’t rush this month of November.  Talk to your families about your blessings and having an attitude of gratitude.

Unveiling the New Book!

I am so excited!  I would like to introduce you to With Unveiled Face.

For those of you that don’t know, Keith Burt, an amazing man in my church, took nearly 400 Facebook posts about scriptures and sent them to me.  Together, and with the help of a team of editors and theologians, we created a daily devotional book that works more like a daily Bible study.

Busy moms, single parents, anyone looking for a Christmas gift, and anyone looking for a way to encounter God daily, this book was written for YOU!

Keith and I don’t make a single dime from the sales of this book.  Every bit of profit goes directly to our church.  Clearview is a new church that still meets in a high school auditorium.  All proceeds are for our building fund.  We all know it takes nearly a million dollars to build a church here in America.

I would love it if all of you jumped over to amazon.com or Barnes and Noble to buy this, but let me ask this first. Please pray for the sales of this book.  Keith and I desperately want to see our church built soon. We also want people around the world to experience God and His power, mercy, and glory every single day!

Here is the website for the book.  http://www.withunveiledface.com/

Please visit, share with your friends, and pray that God can use this book to spread His love, draw others closer to Him, and build a church that will last generations upon generations.
